Factors and GCF

A factor is a number that is multiplied by another product to get a product. Let's say you have 24 and 48 as your numbers. First you find the factors of the numbers. So, the factors of 24 are, 1, 24, 2, 12, 3, 8, 4, 6. And the factors for 48 are, 1, 48, 2, 24, 3, 16, 4, 12, 6,8. The GCF (greatest common factor) would be 12, because 12 is the highest multiple in the list of 24 and 48.

Here is a way to apply factors to a fraction.
9/12 = 3/4
3/4 because if you make a factor list 9 and 16. The GCF would be 3.
9 divided by 3 is 3 and 12 divided 3 is 4.
So, it would be 3/4
